Poetry: Relaxing

Sitting in the Sauna with Sid

These nails are hot
Sid said
Looking up from his paper
As he shifted on the wood slats
Away from a hot nail head
At respectable distance
On a matching set of planks
I sat
Thinking how small these towels were
While taking great satisfaction
In the sweat drop running down to
And spiritlessly settling on
The tip of my nose
I nodded enthusiastically
More to persuade the drop
Like a morbidly hopeful bystander
Below a cruel world ledge
Sid buoyantly began
You know
Used to have a prettiest little shop
Downtown on the square
Antiques you know
Had her for thirty two years
But since my wife died last spring
I just haven't had it in me to keep going
Finally closed the doors this past Monday
Sid smiled
Waiting
Still nodding the drop's demise
I queried
Don't you think these towels are too small ?
Sid lifting his head in agreement
Returned to his paper
As the sweat drop at last plummeted
To the floor below
