Childrens hair is often much different than adult hair for two main reasons. First damage done to their hair. Childrens hair is newer and in turn has had less time to become damaged. This leaves the hair folicle smoother giving the apearance of thinner hair. The second reason is a lack of hormones. Adults produce more oils that coat the hair giving it more protection and keeping it healthy.
In the summer children are more likely to be out in the sun, swimming and playing. If your child is swimming make sure you are washing thier hair after every dip in the pool. If a full shampoo and condition isn't possible atleast rince the harsh chemicals off the hair and give it a bit of conditioner. If your child swims often special shampoos can be purchased specifically for removing pool chemicals. To protect hair from sun damage sprays with spf can be used on the hair. While it seems strange, hair also needs sun protection just like our skin.
One of the most important things to remember is that childrens skin is much more sensitve to the sun. Don't forget their scalp! This area sees very little sun usually so it burns fast and can be very painful and annoying when it begins to peel. Using spf sprays on hair and rubbing some suntan lotion on parts is the best way to keep your kids hair looking healthy not only for summer but in years to come.
Summer is also a great time to let your childs hair down a bit. Clips and ties can become tangled in childrens hair especially when they are playing more often and their hair is dried out from chemical and sun damage. Not only is it an inconvenience to untangle hair but it also results in broken and damaged hair. Since children are often unwilling to sit to have their hair done and can become cranky just let your childs hair stay natural. A simple brushing to get out any tangles and leave the hair looking polished can be more than enough. If your child has some unruly spots use plastic hair clips to hold it down instead of metal ones or hair spray. Both can be very damaging to hair and often hurt the child when their hair moves and is pulled out.
Most importantly have fun! Childrens hair is usually akward so don't worry about making them look perfect. Instad focus on having fun with creative styles that let your child express themselves. Summer is a great excuse for festive hair decorations like red, white and blue hair clips or sparkle hair spray.
