For the last week or so, I have been playing one of the coolest online games out there. The game, of course, has to deal with being a super hero. Yup, you got it: it's called City of Heroes.
It's all here, from flying to super speed. The only problem is what super hero you should be as there are literally hundreds of options. No, there is no heat ray vision or X-ray vision but you can be invincible, fast, super strong, and other powers. The game is awsome.
The downside for many first time MMORPG players is they may not like that you have to constantly battle to level up your character so you can have all the cool superpowers of your favorite heroes. If you give this game a chance you will be hooked and completely oblivious to your surroundings. This could be good or bad as some of you probably have girlfriends or boyfriends. If so, say goodbye to them now as you will no longer pay attention to them unless they ask for help.
When you customize your character he/she can be as big or small as you want. One downside I had was that no matter how hard you try your initial costume determines your hair color. You actually have to search around for the device that controls the different colors, which can be quite annoying but once you do find it you can recreate many costumes from the comic books. You can't duplicate them, they won't allow it, some kind of copy right infringement.
The cool part is the missions and battles. The missions seem to be ripped right out of a comic book. They vary from recon missions to intervention between rival factions. The battle system is a click based, i.e. you click on your target and then click on the power to attack him with. But there is no beating the thrill you get when you see your powers unleash on the unsuspecting bad guy. And let me tell you there are plenty of bad guys to battle.
This is a must have for any fan of comic books or the comic book movies or anyone who as ever wished to be like superman or anyother hero. You will not be disappointed with this game and if you get the sequel City of Villains you can face new villainous opponents.
I give this game 4/5 super punches.
