Poetry: Eyes

by Kevin Noonan

Created on: May 19, 2008

When I look into your eyes
such beautiful sky I see.

I could brush your lips with my fingertips
or crash into your ocean,
but into your eyes, into your sky I climb
and fall
without remembrance, losing all comprehension
of time,
of self.

Into your eyes, your sky:
it's not so much a crashing, a climbing, a falling;
instead,
it is an evacuation
of my existence,
a surrender, a pulling into you where I
no longer am;

pulled
and pulled apart into fragments
becoming a multitude of contemplatives,
worshipers, really, even disciples
meditating on the deepest hues
and becoming aware: I am the color

your eyes,
your sky.

Now, disembodied,
my flesh is forgotten and I feel as if I'm soaring
or even sailing - midair;
but in actuality, I am pouring
like an infusion in somebody's veins:
your veins, which are no longer yours,
but mine;

your eyes,
your sky.

Back in my own body
I remember,
but I'm no longer lost, no longer
afraid, because the place I have been
has allowed me to see

such beautiful sky
when I look into your eyes.
