If I had children, I would want to home school them. You may ask, "Why?" "Why would I prefer to alienate my kids from other children?" "Why would I think that my wife or myself would be better educators than those in brick and mortar schools?" My argument to those cynics would be based on today's poor state of education and cultural atmosphere.
The larger class sizes in school are a big factor on why school students are getting a poor education. The teacher is unable to give his or her attention to each child. The pace is too fast. The mindset of the public education system is to pass them along to the next grade level in order to get ready for next year's group of students. The standard is no longer whether or not a child learns. The goal is to pass them along. Home schools, on the other hand, would allow the student to have a meaningful one-on-one relationship. The student will have the undivided attention of his teacher. By contrast to regular schools, the pace of learning would be slower. There will be quality time to take questions and give explanations to unclear problems.
A second factor on why home schools would be better is the lack of peer pressure. The student will be kept away from drugs and bullies. Even though he will be away from other children, his self esteem can be improved. When a bully bothers someone, the picked on person can feel scared and frightened. Home school students do not have to worry about getting picked on or teased. With this positive atmosphere, the student would have a better quality learning environment. He will also feel comfortable to ask questions freely without getting ridiculed by those who may think that it was a stupid question.
Another factor that makes it more advantageous to home school your child is making him into a more mature and responsible individual. Since slacking off would be more difficult on account of the parent being the educator, the student will have his homework completed on time. These kids will gain valuable study habits. In addition, they will also act like their parent teacher. The old saying "Monkey see, monkey do" can apply in this manner. By hanging around a very positive role model, the student will see how he must behave in society.
The stigma of home schools is decreasing every year. Many families who send their children to regular schools would like to home school their children. However, on account of financial reasons, they can not. In many households, both parents need to work. If people could afford it, there would definitely be a drastic increase on the number of home school children despite its' flaws.
