Quick ways to cut those grocery bills
If you have been following the grocery store process of food lately you know only too well how expensive it is getting to eat. Keep in mind that this is not a one time issue but these processes are expected to increase even more in the upcoming months. I would like to present to you a few rules and pointers that just may cut your food bill drastically.
A review of your grocery spending habits should be at the top of your "To Do" list. Look closely at what types of foods you purchase when you go grocery shopping. This is one area where you can modify your buying program and see the most dramatic savings. Meat represents the largest of your grocery budget and can easily save you some hard earned dollars if you try to cut back a bit. Adding a few bean or possibly pasta dishes throughout the week. Actually any sort of meatless meal will do the trick just fine. Try substituting some type of beans for that steak or chicken and watch those dollars saved rise greatly. Create a few stews or casserole for several of the family meals.
When you do purchase meat visit the grocery stores reduced meat area. Although the selection you find here has a sell by date that is quickly approaching it is still very wholesome food and can be eaten without fear.
Soft drinks raises havoc with a grocery budget and can very easily be eliminated and replaced by water or fruit drink mixes. In addition there is no nee3d to purchase bottled water as a small investment in a home water filter system would benefit you and your family immediately. You should consider this a good investment not only in money but also in health. Other drink option that is available to you includes unsweetened ice tea.
Convenience type foods can quickly push your grocery budget way out of focus. They may be simpler to prepare but be mindful that you are paying dearly for this advantage. Don't purchase items like seasoned rice or pasta mixes merely create your own.
You may consider making oatmeal in the morning for breakfast in place of the costly cold type cereals. Don't even think of purchasing the expensive individual serving oatmeal packages either as they can be very costly.
When it comes to vegetables and fruit always consider purchasing those products which are currently in season and lower in price at the grocery store. If you live near a farmers market you may highly consider purchasing products there. Go together with a family member or a friend and purchase some items in bulk as you will discover that they are generally much cheaper per unit price.
Many people swear by food company coupons however you must bare in mind that these coupons are for top of the line products and as such they usually cost more then the lower grade type. In the end this may not be such as great deal.
You can always purchase foods in bulk and reduce the packages to smaller portions at home saving you some money also. I hope that I have provided you with some information that will benefit your budget in this era of increased food costs.
