Will Reading to My Child Improve Its Future Grades?
By reading to your child on a regular basis you are taking the first steps to ensuring that your child will grow into an individual that is happy, healthy and successful.
Research done on children's literacy has proven that children truly thrive when they receive good attention from their parents, teachers and childcare givers. Children who are read to from infancy become aware of individual sounds, which is really the beginning stages to learning the alphabet and to reading.
You may not realize the importance, that reading nursery rhymes, silly little poems, along with little children's stories has on a child's development of future reading skills. Not only does hearing the individual sound of words help the learning process, reading to a child helps develop creative thinking, also.
It has been proven that children at the age of two to three, that have been read to several times a day, do substantially better in kindergarten at the age of 4 or 5 than children whose parents seldom read to them.
Reading to a child is a thing of joy, you get to relax from your daily work grind, and it is a special bonding time with your child. You get to explore books; you can create your own fantasy world, along with teaching your child the wonders of the written word.
You may not have thought of reading in this way, but reading stimulates your child's imagination, expands their understanding of the world and helps develop language and listening skills.
Haven't given much thought to reading to your child? With television, DVD's and computers, it is so much simpler to allow your child to be occupied with these things, while you go about your household chores, but are you aware of what you both are missing?
Reading to your child does not take much time, honest! At work you take a 15-minute break and think nothing of it. What does that accomplish? A run to the restroom, maybe a quick smoke or a chance to grab a snack, nothing earth shattering in that.
However, two 15-minute sessions reading to your child each day could mean a future A student in school, a person that will develop a love for books or maybe a future writer themselves. All because you, took one half hour a day to read to your child and taught this very vulnerable being to love the written word. Now, that is something to be proud of. Is it not?
Okay, I know you are busy. It is hard to be a working mom and a housewife too. I know I have been there myself with four growing children
