what was happening in the shows in New York? Black and grey were shown as in Paris. Calvin Klein headed with flowing black one shouldered Grecian gowns, slim pants and dresses, dresses and even more dresses.
Donna Karan, a forever fan of black, fitted right in with the best of the group. It was apparent she had her mind set on the heyday of the well dressed 1930s tough broad found in the cinema.
Leaving the black but keeping the grey, Marc Jacobs added new dimensions by using every shade of grey known to man in his collection. The styling was a mixture of new wave meets "That Girl".
While many designers claimed slim pants, Diane von Furstenberg opted for the style of Katherine Hepburn loose and flowing with mannish manner. The majority of her dresses were complimented by man tailored structured jackets, shades of the Andrew Sisters.
Betsy Johnson perennial of the wild and outrageous even used quite a bit of black. She accented her animal print legging with a black jacket, had several black micro minis and added extremely skin tight black slim pants which pointed to the days when beatniks ruled Greenwich Village.
Michael Kors offered his signature browns and tans but included muted greens that broke the barrier of black and grey. As usual his line was soft and feminine with sweaters, dresses and skirts.
To sum up the women's fashion this season, only a quote from Shelley will do. "If winter comes can spring be far behind? "
