The salvation plan of Jesus is not found in formulas or rituals. It is not an intellectual exercise or adhering to some belief system. It is not cold and stale. It is alive. You can feel it and experience it. It is passionate and furious. It does not involve the head but the heart. It reaches so far into the depths of a person that reason and logic are rendered meaningless. It is so simple that is easy to miss, but those who find it, find their thirst quenched (John 4:14). It is hidden from the wise and revealed to babes (Math.11:25). It is foolish to the rational and it is unpractical to the accomplished. A dull heart cannot find it, and a person must have good eyes and ears to understand it (Math.13:15). What is salvation? It is simply receiving a heart of flesh for a heart of stone. It is receiving the Spirit that breaths joy for the ordinances and statutes of God into the depths of a person (Ezek.36:25-26). It is eternal life (John 6:40).
How can a person explain a process like this? It is like trying to explain how love works. Why do we fall in love? Who knows? The fact that we cannot explain love does not seem to keep many people from trying to experience it. Have you ever tried to talk someone out of being in love? It does not work very well? You cannot reason with a person in love because love in not born in the intellect but in the heart. In the same way, a person whose heart has been touched by God is not easily talked out of their faith.
I was in a philosophy class one time with a Christian girl who was not really an intellectual but would not let that to stop her from debating with our professor. The professor made her look stupid in front of the class numerous times. Obviously, he was well trained to dismantle her arguments, but that girl never flinched. I realized that all his sophisticated arguments could not change what was in that girl's heart. That was one of the strongest evidences I had ever seen of salvation.
The question remains, how do we experience this? Even if the process is in our hearts, we still want to reason it out in our heads. The answer is confusingly simple. All a person must do is believe that Jesus is the Son of God (John 3:16). You can only experience the plan of salvation by what you choose to believe. Sound strange? At first it may, but a little thought can add much clarity.
Believing in God is like believing in beauty. Why is something beautiful to one person, but the same thing considered ugly by another person? When a
