Everyone prepares for exams differently. However I find there are about 5 key things that are essential in successful exam preparation and performance:-
.Make a master list of all the topics that will be tested in the exam. Make a written note or use a symbol for topics less major or hinted as not being a major component of the exam (given less time in the course).
.In the early 10 day or 7 day countdown to the final exam, sort out any aspects of the hardest topics you still don't understand or find the hardest. You do not want to leave these to the night before! Think of them as extra bonus points you otherwise would not have got.
.Summarise your notes you have made throughout the course. If you have not made any this is the time to do so.
.Go through each topic systematically, revise the key points, principles and facts. Actively test your knowledge by doing a mock exam situation of typical questions on the topic. When you correct or self-mark your answer make a point of memorising any errors or facts you did not remember.
.Work through all the topics to be revised in the same manner. Go back over and try different ways of testing yourself.Try using pneumonics, sayings where the begining of the string of words makes another memorable word. ie.Richard of York Gave Battle In Vain standing for Red, Yellow, Green,Blue, INdigo,Violet displayed when light passes through a glass prism in physics experiments.
.Leading up to the exam get enough sleep, rest and good nutrition. Eat fish the night before if you can since this is known to be great for thinking (omega oil).
.Before the exam find a quiet space if not headspace and try to avoid discussing possible questions and solutions with your fellow classmates. Its best to have a clear, calm mind when you go into the exam.
.Think positive and try and envisage getting the result you want, actually opening the results slip and seeing the grade you are aiming for and deserve!
