Poetry: Enemies

Closest Enemies

For those who will listen,
all those that will heed
the world today is stricken
with enemies indeed

Yet they will evade your sight
as to stay your friend as well
these friends these days are a blight
yet their numbers and betrayal swells

This friend that stabs you in the back
and smiles to your face
would love to see you fall to the black,
or drift off into space

all like this are worse than snakes
with their sly and crooked ways
they'd gladly watch you burn to flakes
yet in your face they put on the nicest little plays

Beware of these enemies seem to stand by you
they will exploit your talents and riches alike,
but when trouble comes your friends will turn to few
employ your senses to your friends and the like,

then you'll find a true friend, maybe two
that will always be true.
