If you are a teen and you are looking for a job the best thing to do is to go to your school guidance counselor. Most likely you will get a lot of information on openings for teens over the summer. At my school the guidance counselors announced openings for teens for jobs. Now in less then a month prior to the information I have already been signed up to work at the announced location.

If your school doesn't have any information about summer jobs for you then you should go to a recreation center or library and ask the secretary at the information desk if there are any summer jobs open for teens at the center. You would definitely find a job at a recreation center because of summer programs. They will need help with summer lunch programs and summer activities. I got a job at my community library over the summer of last year. I was helping children sign up for the summer reading program and the summer lunch program.

It shouldn't be very hard searching for a summer job if you are between the ages of 14-18. Sometimes you won't even have to look for jobs. The jobs will come to you. You should also be prepared with information when looking for a job. You should have a copy of your birth certificate and social security card. You should not wait until the last minute to get this information because if you find a job and there is a deadline for the information you want to be ready.

You should have your parents come with you to some locations because some organizations do not take teens seriously. Adults will often make the situation better instead of worse. When going to a job interview you shall dress properly. If you are a lady you should not wear any low cut tops. You should not wear flip flops or walk in the door chewing gum. Chewing gum in a interview is very unprofessional.

Gentlemen should not wear heavy chains, caps, or baggy clothing. Baggy clothing is also very unprofessional. Just because you are a teen does not mean that you should always dress to fit in with friends.

At the end of a interview you should always say that something nice to the employer and shake their hand before leaving. This says that you are interested and that you are not rude. The most important thing is to be on time for the interview because it says that you will be on time if you get the job.
