Choosing the best season for your wedding

You just got engaged! Congratulations! Now, you need to decide on a date for your wedding, and this will be a big task. Deciding on the best season for your wedding will really depend on many things. Once you have chosen, then the planning will fall into place. So let's figure out how to choose the best time for YOUR wedding.

First, sit down with a calendar, your fiance and both sets of parents, if possible. Talk about dates that might be conflicting, such as another family wedding, a previously planned vacation or a graduation, for example. You'll want to avoid any times that might prove tricky for family and friends to make it to your special day.

Next, talk about how you envision your wedding. Do you see yourself getting married in your backyard? Or how about a beautiful beach wedding? Do you want to ride to the ceremony on a magnificent carriage or would you like to ring in the new year as newly married? If you are leaning towards one idea or the other, your season will probably present itself easily.

But what if you have no prior conflicts and you have no idea what you'd like your wedding to be like? Ask yourself this question : Do I like the cooler months or am I more partial to warm, summery days? If you simply can't stand the thought of being sweaty, then avoid the summer. If you're always cold, then the winter is simply not right for your wedding.

Flowers can play a big part in choosing the right season for your wedding, believe it or not. If you simply must get married carrying a huge bouquet of peonies, then you don't have a lot of choice except to get married in the spring when they are at their most plentiful. Unless you have an unlimited budget, make sure the flowers you'll want will be in season by planning your date around the growing season of that particular flower. It might seem odd, but it will save you lots of money if you do.

Do you love a particular holiday? Then why not plan a Christmas wedding or a Valentine's celebration! You can use holidays to make planning simple by already having a theme to work with. Miniature Christmas trees on each table make great centerpieces and snowflakes on your invitations can be a wonderful part of a frosty, winter wedding.

If you are planning on a destination wedding, you'll want to consider the time of year that best suits the climate. You wouldn't want to plan a summer wedding in Bermuda when it will be extremely hot. Why not wait until winter and travel to a warmer climate so that all your guests can come home with tans! Similarly, if you'd like to be married in your own backyard, don't choose a November day when the weather can be chilly and it gets dark early.

So, take into consideration the climate you like best, the flowers that are available at that time of year, and where you'd like your wedding to take place. These will all be great indications as to the best time of year for your celebration. Your guests will thank you for it!
