Poetry: Nightmares

by Rachael Stone

Created on: May 17, 2008

I am your nightmare

You go to sleep, and in I creep to cause you fear and make you weep
I plant the seeds that cause the scenes of dreams,
To make you toss and turn
So slowly at first, and then I make them worse to hear the fear in your groans,
Then comes the sweat, I will get you yet you turn and try to run

Run, run as fast as you can, it really is no good
You cannot escape the dream I make, on it goes until you awake
Then the fear recedes, the sweat dries, you wipe the tears from your eyes
Your calm returns, no longer scared,
You have beaten me, and I, the nightmare fades

But I will be back when the night time falls
Waiting in the shadows on the walls
And when you lay your head down to sleep
From the shadows I will creep, into your mind, into your head
To wreak havoc on your dreams in bed

I am the nightmare, yes that is me
I will threaten your sanity, I like to make good dreams turn bad
I will make you think you are going mad
There is no way to be rid of me
For I am your nightmare and you are stuck with me
