Nathan "As the Lord lives, the man who has done this shall surely die! And he shall restore fourfold for the lamb because he did this thing and because he has no pity." Nathan looked David squarely in the eye and said, "David you are man! Nathan recounted to David his sin of adultery with his neighbor Bathsheba, and his covering up his sin by having her husband killed by placing him up at the front of the battle and withdrawing support so that he would be attacked and killed. The parable method was a very effective means Nathan used to reach the heart of the proud and sinful King.
Jesus used parables to point to the truths of God's Kingdom. In Matthew 13 the disciples ask Jesus why He speaks in parables... In Matthew 13: 11- 17 we read "He answered and said to them, "Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the Kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. For whoever has, to him more will be given and he will have abundance, but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. Therefore, I speak to them in parables because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled which says "Hearing you will hear and shall not understand, and seeing you will see and not perceive; for the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, and their eyes they have closed, lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, lest they should understand with their hearts and turn sp that I should heal them" But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear. For assuredly I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see and did not see it and to hear what you hear and did not hear it."
The disciples inquired why the Lord spoke in parables Jesus response was that they had been given them the honor of knowing the intimate mysteries of God's kingdom, but to those outside the Kingdom this mystery is not revealed. The honor of knowing the mystery of God's Kingdom was given to those who were in relationship with Jesus Christ. Jesus used parables to declare the truth of the Kingdom to those who truly followed Him. Those who were not in relationship with Him could not understand the truth Jesus was proclaiming. The important thing was one needed to be in relationship with the Lord and if he was his eyes and ears and understanding were opened, and he could understand the truth Jesus was
