Twenty years ago, it was mandatory for all children to attend full day, traditional school in order to expand their horizons, grasp new concepts, and learn to express themselves through art, music, physical activities, and social interaction. In our modern day era, however, children and families are given the unique opportunity to acquire a perfectly adequate education right from the comforts of their home. While each family who chooses homeschooling as the ultimate option in order to provide their child with academic education does so for different reasons, fundamentally, there are virtually an endless valid reasons why homeschooling can be a viable options for families throughout our nation.
HANDS ON LEARNING, INDIVIDUALIZED ATTENTION, AND DISABILITIES:
It would perhaps be preposterous to insinuate that each child learns in exactly the same manner. While some children learn and thrive within large group settings, others function best with more individualized care and attention. Many parents feel that by providing their child with one-on-one teaching, their child will be more likely to not only grasp information more easily, but also to plug it directly into their long term memory. Furthermore, parents who homeschool their children are able to design and create hands-on learning projects that will strategically provide their children with more memorable learning experiences. Because their children are not hindered by classroom upsets, behavioral problems, or a situation where learning is hindered because of different ability levels, they are able to spend more valuable time creating more memorable, creative learning projects and experiences. In larger group settings such as those within traditional classrooms, teachers are often forced to rely more heavily on books and factual information in order to inspire students to obtain factual knowledge at a reasonable pace. While there is certainly nothing wrong with this method of academic instruction, children who prosper by first hand experiential knowledge, are able to more fully benefit from this method of learning within a home setting. Home settings also are popular amongst families who obtain children with specialized learning difficulties or problems. Parents who teach their children at home are able to identify an appropriate pace for their child's learning and also provide them with a positive, accepting environment in which to grow and prosper most fully.
