Laboratory.
MIT designed Project Oxygen, is an information technology initiative designed to make computing easier and humanistic. Once finalized, the project will triple current available Internet bandwidth via trans-Atlantic cables, from 640 gigabytes per second to 1,280 gigabytes per second, increasing the digital information flow to over 78 countries.
But Project Oxygen was conceived by Michael Dertouzos, who desired to "enable people to do more by doing less," and for computers to work as humans do, and symbolically breathe oxygen as we do. And so the project seeks also to implement voice recognition technology to computing. Imagine not knowing where a country is, and turning on your computer and asking it, as you would with ask a friend? Picture the answer appearing on your screen instantaneously. These are some of the exciting possibilities currently being explored in MIT's Project Oxygen in Boston.
