Poetry: Love unrequited

by Kimberly A. Smith

Created on: May 17, 2008

He:
An Ode To Unrequited Love

He's too skinny, tall, gangly.
With a crooked smile
He tells me he loves me,
And that we make a good team

He holds my hand
As we wait for a table for dinner
And runs his fingers through my hair
When we hug.

His hair is wild and needs a trim.
His clothes never quite seem to match
And his boots are scuffed
Sometimes he stutters as he speaks

I feel safe and warm with him
I go out of my way for a conversation
His eyes make me melt
When he leans in close to whisper to me

He doesn't always know the right thing to say
But his intentions are always innocent
He is too much of a perfectionist
And is in love with his job

We're not together
Despite what everyone thinks
And I always wonder
If I'm just not good enough
