Created on: May 16, 2008

Schools all most over and summer time is here. All you teens will be out searching for that summer job or a part time job, to earn some extra spending money.

Sure there is numerous jobs on the market that a teen can do, a few examples of these jobs are: Babysitting, mowing grass, working on a farm, run errands for friends, family, etc., walking dogs, tutoring and volunteer work. These are all good jobs, but working in a retail environment can give you experience in your future career path.

For instance working in the retail industry, regardless if it is a large retail store or a small retail store or even a fast food restaurant. Some of the retail stores or fast food restaurants are: K-mart, Wal-mart, Family Dollar, Pamida, Kroger's, Burger King, McDonald's, Taco Bell, the list goes on and on. Most of these companies promote with in. Also most will work with you on your schedule if you need time off for any reason. You can be a cashier, a stocker, a bagger, or even working the sales floor, the results are endless.

You will meet new people, learn how to handle your money, you will learn responsibility, how to work with a team, and most of all how to save.

You can learn so much knowledge that can help you in your future career path. Who knows you could be a retail manager someday. You could also choose a career in accounting, banking, teaching, design, leadership the choices are endless.

I know your wandering how a job in retail will give you experience in your future career path. Well I started out as a cashier in a retail/grocery store and was promoted to front-end supervisor, Which helps on your resume. Then I went to work at another smaller retail store and was hired in as a shift team leader. Which then lead me to a manager of another retail store. The knowledge and experience that I learned as a retail store manager has landed me in my current job as an office manager. What I do now is because of my retail experience that I gained over the years, I truly love my job. I owe all of my accomplishments to the retail industry. I didn't have any special training or college degree, just a high school diploma, and five years of retail experience. Now I'm not saying you shouldn't go to college, by all means you need a college education to get a real good job that pays well. I'm just saying work hard, apply yourself, show them what you got to offer. Hard work really pays off in the long run.

So you see no matter what retail environment you choose: fashion, grocery, movies, fast food restaurants, etc. the possibilities are endless. So what you choose to do is entirely up to you. Just remember to do your best and have fun.
