Poetry: Ending a relationship

A Masquerade Ending

We live our life in a masquerade ball

Every day, we go there for the fun of it all

We dance, all over the ball room, with masks on our faces

As we dance, we pretend to be the perfect pair who is so much in love with smiles on faces

Yet no one knows the truth behind our masks

As we hide away the truth about our perfect life

As we hide our true feelings about one another, away from each other's sight

Behind my mask, I just want to crumble and cry

As I struggle with my conscious and the truth that is inside

With the struggle to conceal my true feelings from the world outside

Then, I see him with her

As they dance, I can see the love they have for each other

And I realize, I can no longer pretend or live with this lie

This masquerade, that he and I are the perfect pair
who is so much in love with nothing to hide

Quietly, I will dance away in the night with the truth inside of me

I will set myself free from the this lie that binds me

I will no longer dance with him at this masquerade ball

Where the doors will forever be closed to the fun it all
