Chris jumped out of bed excited about the weekend. He knew that something good would happen today. He quickly threw on his play clothes and ran down to the kitchen. "Hurry and eat your breakfast! Your cartoons start in a minute." His mother said with a grin. Without so much as a thank you Chris scarfed down his breakfast, and headed for the back door. "Where do you think you are going young man?" questioned Chris' mother. "I'm heading for the woods something good is going to happen today!" explained Chris. "Well OK son, but be careful, the woods can be dangerous. The door burst open as Chris barreled through it.
Chris had spent many hours exploring the woods, but never had he felt as excited about it as he did right now. As he slowly approached the towering masses of wood and leaves, a cool wind blew sending chills up his neck. With a deep breath he ventured in to an adventure, unlike any he had ever started upon. Something was definitely going to happen today. . . but was it good?
The leaves rustled over head making a creepy sound. His heart jumped every time he stepped on a twig, making a sharp snap. Then there is was! He dropped to his belly, letting his hand cautiously seek out any stick he might use as a weapon. Something was moving closer. He could hear it taking slow cautious steps. What was it? His mom told him to be careful, but he never thought he would run into anything out here. As it moved closer, his grip tightened around the branch he had found. He leapt up bringing the stick up over his head ready to swing at anything that moved, and yelled "AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!" A scream froze him in terror, preventing him from bringing the branch down. "Geeze Chris, you scared the begeesus out of me!" He never expected to run into anything out here, let alone Chelsea the girl who lived 2 doors down. "What do you think you are doing? You could have killed me!" "Come on Chelsea, you're the one sneaking around scaring people." He dropped the stick and started to slowly walk deeper into the woods. "Idiot" she whispered as she started after him.
They walked together for about an hour when Chelsea stopped. "Uh, Chris?" "What do you want," he replied still upset that he had been scared by a girl. "These woods are only about 2 blocks deep, why have we been walking for an hour and not come out on Melanie Lane?" Just as she finished, the 2 children stepped out into a vast meadow, just in time to see 2 people dressed in armor riding horses towards each other while holding very large sticks. "Ummm, Chels, I think we took a wrong turn," Chris turned just in time to see Chelsea faint.
