Good reasons for homeschooling your children

Homeschooling your children will take your total devotion to providing a quality education. Every parent considering homeschooling should talk to parents of home schooled children before making this important decision. No matter what your reason is for homeschooling, you must be prepared to teach.

Public schools have been forced to implement programs that are not necessarily in your child's best interest. Many schools now have inclusion classes that are made up of equally numbered students of three groups, the gifted, the average, and the learning disabled. The hope is that the gifted will pull up the average student and the average student will pull up the learning disabled. The gifted child is on his own. This sounds good, but I have taught some of these classes and they can be chaotic. A good reason for homeschooling is the rescue of your child from the No Child Left Behind program. It is not working and your child just may be the one left behind. Many children can not cope with the emotional lows and highs of the gifted and learning disabled. Home school can provide a quiet, orderly environment more conducive to learning.

Public schools are being forced to omit all references to Christian symbols, teachings, and celebrations. A good reason to home school your children is the right to teach your child Christian principles. Many parents use Bible based curriculum when teaching their children. You can pray, read scripture, teach the creation story, and display Christian symbols.

Some children do not fit in with the mainstream, causing them to be singled out for bullying or emotional/physical abuse. If you feel your child's safety can not be guaranteed, this is a good reason for homeschooling. There are many children home schooled due to chronic illness or severe accidents. Certified teachers are provided for students who must be home schooled due to illness or accidents, free of charge. A parent has the option of accepting the teacher into the home or becoming the teacher for his child.

Some children struggle with learning disabilities such as dyslexia,or Autism. Others have difficulties socially, such as stuttering or emotional immaturity. These students will perform better with individual instruction. Even gifted children sometimes find it difficult to relate socially with their school age peers. Whether a student needs to move slowly through the educational system or needs acceleration, homeschooling is an option to consider.

There are many good reasons for home schooling your child. There are excellent resources available to help you help your child succeed. It is a decision that must be carefully thought through because of the tremendous responsibility involved.
