So, kids say the darnedest things was one of the most popular shows for a good amount of years, mostly because whenever we watched it we all recognized familiarities of either our own childhood or the crazy antics of our children. Well my little sister could have been the star of that show. Since the day I met her she has been saying some crazy stuff and asking all the best questions. She has asked everything from "Does God where shoes?" to the classical "Where do babies come from?" Believe me she has had us all flabbergasted many times. But one of the funniest things she has ever done, the one thing that we will still probably be talking about until she dies, was the first time she took communion.
We were attending a church where instead of passing the communion cups around, they allowed the people to go up and grab them when they saw fit. Well, one of the teachers thought it would be a cute idea to have the little kids come up and have their communion. Oh and it was cute to see all their angelic faces wait patiently in line to get their communion. You could see the proud looks on all the parents faces So they all got in line and sweetly grabbed their cracker and juice and the children's teacher instructed them on what to do with it. The kids all had their communion and went on their merry way, or so we thought.
Later as we are driving home from church my sister begins to give us the commentary that had obviously been going through her head that day at church.
"That was a weird snack today."
Mom (a little confused) "What snack honey?"
"You know the crackers and juice"
"Honey, that wasn't snack that was communion. It is a symbol that represents making God a part of your life. You know, when Jesus died on the cross for our sins? Well communion remembers that and shows Jesus that we appreciate what he did for us. He asked us to take communion to remember the gift of life he gave us. Didn't your teacher explain that, or anything?" Mom asked, giving Dad that look that meant "I am going to be talking to that teacher later."
"No" My little sister answered, not sounding that broken up about it
"Well do you have questions?" Mom asked her, feeling sorry for the poor girl who felt she had inly been cheated out of a well deserved snack.
"Yeah, why did we get so little? I mean it wasn't even a whole cracker just cracker crumbs. And they didn't give me enough juice. I mean, is that all they could afford?"
What can I say, Kids say the darnedest things.
