President Bush and discrimination

The United States was founded by people who believed in a hierarchy of structure, different than those before us. One where the people had rights, and the states had rights. This also means that the people and the states have responsibilities. George W. Bush has been considered a discriminate president because of some major events that have happened in our country. Is he the one truly responsible for the problem? Let's take a look at some of the facts regarding some different events since his presidency. The major discrimination issue is that the Federal Government did not help New Orleans in a time of need because President Bush hates black people. Take a look at the facts below to understand the procedure and decide for yourself that discrimination is not always about black and white.

Hurricane's Katrina - The Facts

Fact - Two devastating hurricanes during 2005 that killed and displaced many Americans along the Gulf Coast.

Fact - In an event of a natural disaster it is the primary responsibility of the local and state government to respond, not the federal.

Fact - New Orleans did not follow their evacuation procedure that promises in the event of a natural disaster those who can not transport themselves will be transported by the city.

Fact - The Federal Government plays a role in relief, but they must be asked to do so.

Fact - Louisiana Governor, Kathleen Blanco did not submit a request for federal assistance on time as is her duty as governor, and only asked for Shelter and Provisions when she did submit her request. No request was asked by Governor Blanco for evacuation help.

Fact - The Governor and Mayors are supposed to work together to make sure that everything is taken care of. New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin didn't follow through with evacuation procedure nor did he ask for assistance, Governor Blanco thought, as his responsibility, he was making the arrangements.

The facts about Hurricane Katrina and her effect on New Orleans are sad no matter how they are looked on, but as Americans we take pride that we have the boundaries set in place that we do. Is it the Federal Government's responsibility? Sure, they could have overstepped their boundaries, but then they would have been wrong. The main fault here is the local and state government of New Orleans, LA. By no means does this conclude that President Bush hates black people, if anything it proves worse. That the officials who are proud of their city and town didn't care enough about it or it's people to follow procedures to evacuate properly and to ensure that federal aid would be received in a timely manner.
