Reflections: The top 10 things you want to do in your life

by Merr Chandler

It's great to make a list of things you want to do in your life. Life is short, and unfortunately, you can't do everything. So it's best to prioritize and figure out where you want to end up!

There are many things that would make this list that I've already done. I have a great husband and good friends, and those are very important to me. I'd certainly want them if I didn't have them already.

1. Become an artist. This is one thing that's closest to my heart. I create things and sell them now, so some people may consider me an artist, but I want to become well regarded in my field. Fame, I'll admit, is one thing I desire. This may not be the best thing, but it drives me toward my goal. I want to be a name known on, at least, a local level, preferably a national one. I want people to seek out my opinions on art. And above all, I want to be able to support myself in a career that revolves around creating and exploring poignant, thought-provoking works of art.

2. Rescue an animal. I'm not that great with people, but I love animals, and I think saving one would make a huge difference in the world. Maybe it's a bit cheesy, but it's something that I want to do in my lifetime.

3. Teach others. I've always wanted to be a college professor, and while that may not happen without further education or becoming a famous artist, I can still teach. Volunteer work may be useful in this regard - art therapy may be something that I enjoy. Not only would this be good for me, but perhaps I could help others realize their potential and learn about themselves through art.

4. Attain balance through moderation. This could also say "learn to be happy with myself," so maybe it's two goals in one. I tend to gravitate towards extremes, and focusing on bringing myself to the middle is something that would be beneficial to me in many ways - both psychologically and physiologically. Yogic principles will be important in achieving this goal.

5. Write a book. This would probably end up being and art or craft book, but that's fine with me. I'd just like to publish something significant.

6. Seek out knowledge. I know I can't know everything about everything, but I enjoy learning, and I'd like to be able to learn as much as I can in my lifetime. This may not be a tangible goal, but it's one that allows me to explore the topics that interest me at any given time without feeling guilty for letting something "more important" slide.

7. Stay on top of technology. My current job requires me to be up on technology,
