Coffee is my friend, coffee is my enemy. I love its smell, the bitter, rich, delicious feeling of it on my lips every morning. I love the way the aroma fills my house, bright and early, everyday. I drink it while I smoke my Marlboro, I drink it while I do my makeup, and my hair, and if I have time, I'll swing by Starbuck's and grab a cup on my way to work. Then everyday it happens, I'm half way through my day, and my energy starts fading, very quickly.
I didn't grow up in a house where coffee was a morning routine, my Mom drinks hot tea every morning to this day. She hates coffee, the way it smells, and the way it tastes. I never much cared for hot tea, it seems watered-down or lacking some key that I can't quite put my finger on. It doesn't have a nice robust smell, or a smooth, rich, taste. It tastes just like.tea. No thank you, I need more from my beverage.
With coffee the possibilities are endless; hot, cold, sweet, strong, espresso, decaf, extra bold, Folgers, Maxwell, Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, and the list goes on. Coffee is a fulfilling morning pick-me-up. It's a delightful iced beverage in the afternoon. It's also a nice drink for after a large meal, when you need illegal drugs to ward off a yawn. It's vibrant and rich, and I love it.
Don't get me wrong, tea is okay. I like iced tea, especially in the summer. It's nice with dinner, or at a barbeque. It could never hold a candle to my love affair with coffee. I would like to point out that no one ever needs a cup of tea when they see someone else having one, millions of coffee drinkers need coffee when they see someone else having some, sort of like cigarettes.
So back to my dilemma, I am so addicted to the caffeine that my precious coffee provides that half way through my day I start to fade, like the guy in the Emerald Nuts commercial, without the Swiss Family Robinson, or the women from the "Addicted to Love" video. One, then two, then three, on and on comes yawn, after yawn. So inevitably, I race to the nearest coffee house, and get my fix before somebody gets hurt. Because undoubtedly someone will, if I don't get my caffeine. Seriously.
Coffee vs. Tea, the two distinct groups of people who prefer each beverage have probably been debating this for years. This debate isn't likely to go away anytime soon. Neither side can understand the other, I have no idea why my Mom likes hot tea, I think it's gross. She is never going to understand my coffee obsession. There is no debate for me however, Vive Coffee!
