Poetry: Food humor

by Jon Coe

Created on: May 16, 2008

Oh plump little sausages, on my plate
let me introduce to you to your mate
This was once a potato, pulled from the ground
mashed up, mixed with butter and milk, in a mound

Some children like to play with their food
it's all quite healthy but sometimes rude
Mashed potatoes, heaped in the middle
with sausage chimneys, hey diddle-diddle

Gravy and peas, an added bonus for some
pockets of potato, with brown craters for fun
Dotted with peas, all over the place
mashed potato and gravy, running down your face

Bangers and Mash, a traditional delight
a recipe from Britain, simple and trite
But take heed and do what you're told
for Bangers and Mash tastes icky when cold
