My 40th Birthday Weekend
A special thank you to the man who claims my heart
The one who gave my 40's quite a start
There aren't words enough to tell you
How I appreciate all that you do
But I''ll take a chance and with these words impart
My thanks to you for teaching me of patience
That letting someone who cares take hold the rein
Provides a freedom and a peace to enjoy life's pleasures
Of which the memories will always remain
You amazed me with your detailed planning
The itinerary was oh, so well thought out
The clues had me baffled and wondering
What this weekend would be all about
Wardrobe was confusing and stressful
But your love kept my mind on the plan
Your gentle reminders were comforting
Of the fact that "you were the man"
The adventure began and I wondered
If...the hints that you gave were a plots?
To keep me from guessing the "secret plan"
Well, figure it out, I did not!
We headed North in the late afternoon
To the land where my Mother was born
You offered some clues that I flatly refused
And to secrecy you stayed sworn
Our first stop was the Minolta Tower
With a room on the 30th floor
Wine on the sill, a bed fit for a king
And, oh, there was so much more
The view of the Falls was amazing
The private elevator quite unique
Just knowing that you had arranged it
Left me almost unable to speak
We didn't have to long to linger
Your plan took us back to the street
I didn't spend anytime worrying
Every moment with you was treat
You took me to dine at the Love Boat
A sentimental spot from our past
It was perfect, of course, the dinner divine
From the first drop of wine to the last
The international intrigue was blatant
As the table from Italy proved
An incredible rendition of O Solo Mio
And the entire restaurant was moved
We headed for Casino Niagara
Where we were certain to have a few thrills
30 minutes were all that we needed
To walk out with 100 hundred bills!
Impeccable was your timing
As we came out in time for the bus
The fireworks in all their glory
Were captured in the mirrors just for us
A walk by the new casino
Proved to be a romantic sight
For the kiss that you place on the nape of my neck
By the mighty Niagara at night
We walked back to our room in the sky
Where we shared the bottle of wine
The view, the bowtie, the black of the night
Confirming that you were all mine
The night it too soon did pass
And at six we were ready for more
No time for breakfast in heaven
We headed right out the door
You baffled me all day on Friday
With your splendid array of fun
Little did I know at the moment
That there was so much more

The first time I cradled you, in my arms,
The moon shone bright, cheered on by the stars.
The blossom scattered wide and
In the passing of time I came to know
That birthdays come and go
