It seems that a reverse form of discrimination is snaking its ugly way through the landmine that is women's rights. Not all, but a great number of women are the worst perpetrators of it against themselves, unfortunately. Have you ever been on a crowded bus, for example, and been given "the glare" by an able-bodied, unencumbered female because you didn't automatically give up your seat?

Have you ever been passed over for a job that you were perfectly suited for or equally qualified for because "they needed to hire a female?" Women will rage against these so called injustices and swear they are all for equal rights and equal treatment, yet the minute they are expected to "sit down and take it" along with the rest of us, the flags go up and the guns are loaded. It's almost embarrassing to see the way certain women expect certain things but then coyly use the old "oh but I'm not looking for special treatment" line. I hear it day in and day out and it disturbs me that the younger generation of females are reverting to the helpless babe in the woods routine after all the advances the women's movement has made. If we've come such a long way, baby, then why are we allowing ourselves to go running backwards at top speed the same way we came?

There seems to be no end in sight either, it's a strange syndrome. A certain female in my presence had an in-depth discourse with her female friend about how she used the gender/sex card when it was convenient for her and her purposes-"oh, i told them it was that time of the month and they let me leave early so i could go meet Charlie!" Why oh why must we keep demeaning ourselves to fit the stereotype of the weaker sex? What's wrong with being proud and strong and sucking it up a little now and then? What's wrong with taking it on the chin when you have to and not looking for the easy way out or the free ride? Whatever happened to anything you can do i can do better? It seems that women want to be babied when they want, but then expect to be treated as part of the boys' club when they want, too. Why cant there be a common ground where you get the soft, feminine side with the capable, mature side and still be looked at a woman? Where have our morals and values gone, do we really want to looked down upon as helpless and pathetic? There are just so many examples of women "playing the game" and it's not being played on a level field. i hate to sound sexist or rude but it needs to be said, and me being a woman, i feel i can say it. Perhaps i'm a traitor to my gender or however you want to put it, but i would be even more of a traitor if i stood idly by while my sisters continued to mire themselves in the pit of phoniness and patheticness.
