Poetry: Remembering love

My Best Friend

How do I describe to you,
My very best friend Dave?
His color is clearly blue,
And he usually needs a shave.

He's a wee bit larger than most,
But that means more for me to hold.
When at a party, he's a great host.
He'll keep you warm when you feel cold.

When I feel lonely, he holds me close.
When I need to talk, he'll listen.
When I'm depressed, he gives me a dose

Of his unique charm, and my eyes glisten.

I turn to him in times of trouble
When life has come to burst my bubble.

We love music - opera to rock,
And we think hot tubbing is great.
At the end of the day we watch the clock,
Because I'll need to go home - it's late.

His bulletin board I often call
To talk about how we felt.
During a pillow fight, he takes a fall.
He gives me a back rub, and I melt.

Then occurs a magical thing
When we share our first real kiss.
My imagination takes sudden wing,
It's a moment I would not miss.

So now where do we go from here?
When did you suddenly become so dear?

I'm eager to see him each time we meet,
And forget the stress of my life.
Time spent with Dave cannot bea beat,
Such great relief in times of strife.

Henry has left me for another girl,
And I feel so lost and hurt.
Yet now I've found a hidden pearl
Buried beneath my emotional dirt.

Clearning away the sadness and pain,
I find feelings that I didn't expect.
Instead of loss, I find a huge gain,
Now I'm rebuilding my self-respect.

Now that I'm no longer Henry's wife,
It's time for me to build a new life.

Dave is so warm and caring,
And has lots of love to give.
Maybe from him I'll learn about sharing
And even find a new way to live.

My affection for him continues to grow,
I'd even dare to call it a crush.
But our relationship has a long way to go,
There's time - no need to rush.

No one knows what the future may hold.
Who can say there's a future for us?
My best friend has a heart of gold,
And his feelings won't crumble into dust.

Someday my heart will feel like new.
Until then, my silly old bear, I love you.
