NBA team profile: 2007/2008 Phoenix Suns

knew his role as a role player. It was Steve Nash's team and O'Neal was just a part of it now.

The Suns made it to the Playoffs again but this time they face the defending champions, the Spurs. Again, the Spurs proved that defense is the way to beat teams, as evidence in dispatching the Suns in 5 games. While Shaquille played decent defense against Tim Duncan, the rest of the Suns did little to help change their fate. No defense and this time it is a first round exit. Steve Kerr preached defense to Mike D'Antoni. And he did it often.

Mike had enough, he did not want to have his players play defense and he wanted to play basketball his way. A stubborned old man, he is. He wanted to get paid as well. Phoenix Suns wanted D'Antoni to say, or did they? Allow Mike to talk with other teams looking for a new head coach is basically saying, we do not want to fire you, yet we do not really want you back either, so if you get a job, see ya!

Off goes Mike D'Antoni to the dysfunctional New York Knicks. Remember one thing Mike, you get to have Stephon Marbury again. He did not get along with you well in his tenure while he was with the Suns and he sure will not get along with you on the Knicks. Phoenix Suns are also at a loss. Nash is aging along with an already aged Shaq. No coach out in the market that runs the particular offense that was so effective when D'Antoni was in charge.

In conclusion, the Phoenix Suns should start rebuilding right now. They have the pieces and players to do so. They can not keep the salary cap the way it is right now. The ramble did not pay off. They are at a loss in terms of talent and without a head coach. Steve Kerr's job just got more difficult and he has some major off season decisions that he must make.

Phoenix Suns, prepare for the lottery next year. Just like old times again, right?
