If you love television, you might remember that TV series starring Geena Davis as the president of the United States. While the series was short lived, it did leave a lasting impression. In fact, I think it could have been the guiding light behind the Hillary Clinton campaign. I think that Hillary has dreamed for years of snatching the power for herself. And, now she has her chance.
And, why not? She's suffered and put up with the slings and arrows of being a politicians wife; a charming yet cheating husband and all too public humiliation at being the forgotten wife.
So, why shouldn't she have a shot at the presidency, especially after all she's been through? I guess that's like saying, why shouldn't I get to be president just because the local Albertsons or Ralphs is out of tissue paper? The two things are not necessarily related.
Really though, when determining Hillary Clinton's qualifications, you have to ask yourself: "Will she do the best thing for me?" It all boils down to the individual. Who do you want leading the country or better yet, leading you? Who is wise or smart enough to think of the good for the common man or woman? Who speaks for you? Who can relate to the average person and their struggle, not just the rich fat-cats.
Perhaps one of Hillary Clinton's greatest strengths is her perseverance, even if the face of shame and humiliation. When her husband's infidelities were splashed across every page in America (and around the world), she is claimed to have said, "I wish I could just climb in bed and cover my head. But, I have things to do." See what I mean? She was embarrassed. But, she didn't just crawl in a hole and die. And, for most people, that would have been the first reaction.
Unlike her current opponent, Sen. Obama, Hillary is not the most eloquent or well spoken politician. She doesn't specialize in rhetoric or sweet speeches. She's not always photogenic, (unlike the effervescent Obama). But, what she lacks in Hollywood glamor, she makes up for in sincerity.
Thirty plus years in the political scene has given Hillary Clinton a working insider's knowledge of how government should (and should not) be run. Honestly, when compared to her other opponent McCain, how does she differ? Both have similar experience in politics.
And, even though, she's only been an elected official for several years, her background more than amply prepares her for the job as President and CEO of the country.
So, that's my opinion. What's yours?
