The first time I saw an aura, it was in Spanish class in high school. For some reason, I was glancing around the room and thinking about who would be most likely to be able to pick up on my thoughts, or read my mind, I guess. All of a sudden I saw a bright pink glow around one of my fellow classmates' head and shoulders, and it shocked me so much that it snapped me right out of being able to see it. He turned and looked at me as if he had sensed me somehow, and I turned away, feeling as though I had somehow invaded his space.
I'd heard of auras and had figured that was what I had seen. I began reading about them, and trying to see one again. It happened, but to this day I can't force it. In fact, that seems the worst thing to try to do.
Yet I can still tell you when I see them the most, and how it seems to work for me. It's sort of an unfocused focus, and dimmed light seems to work the best. The place I have seen them the most was in classrooms and lectures, when I've just sort of tuned in to what the person is saying but glazed over the rest of the world. Suddenly, I'll start to see edges around people, almost like if you look at a bright light too long, except there will be no direct light source and the colors aren't the compliments like you'll see from a light bulb. It only happens if I am relaxed, and it always appears the strongest around the head and shoulders area of a person. Sometimes they are close, like a second skin, and sometimes they are spread out, eminating from a person's body. I've learned that more open people tend to have larger auras, or that the ones that are brighter and more spread out are usually feeling strongly about something.
I've also learned how to deal with the sense of invasion that seeing an aura gave me the first time. I generally tell people I've seen their aura, and though I'm sure more than one of them has walked away wondering if I'm crazy, it makes me feel better for doing so. I generally tell them what it looked like, and what the colors mean. I've also learned that even when I can't seem to find that blurred focus of consciousness where I seem to see them best, I can still feel them most of the time. It's the presence you sense when someone walks into the room, even if you can't see them when they enter. It's the sense of calm that some people emit, or the nervousness of others that seems contagious.
I've heard it said that everyone sees at least one aura in their lifetime,
