The thrill of extreme sport is as addictive as a recognized addiction. Our day to day lives, mundane and full of routine can make us crave that adrenaline rush that we can take from extreme sports. When your stomach flips and your heart pounds and threes that split second where you feel on top of the world and at the same time absolutely petrified that the safety will fail and threes that feeling where your life hangs in the balance. Now to some that doesn't sound appealing but for those whose routine is driving for a living or sitting in front of a computer it is extreme sports that gives us something that is missing. Extreme sports will continue to become popular as our lives continue to take the regular routine and mundane schedule. For me a skydive for charity bought home to me the absolute breathtaking enormity of what extreme sports is about. The moment before the dive where you heart is pounding so hard you would swear the person standing next to you could feel it too, where your legs feel like they have lost their control and your arms tingle whilst your looking around for something or someone to grab hold of in case at that very last second you change our mind, racing through the safety procedures in your head fretting that you have forgotten that vital part that could and would save your life. Then you do it, you take the dive and the first thing you feel is the freedom of flying and the rush of air on your head and how the ground looks like its moving towards you at an amazing speed, then its over, you have landed and all thats left is the desire to do it again... and again... and again!
So we do it again, each time feeling those thoughts we first felt just not so much as intense as that first time until we start to seek out something with a bigger adrenaline rush, something with a bigger fear, even more extreme and so is the snowball effect, the more daring we become and the more dangerous our extreme sports become.
So whilst your sitting there thinking 'no thank you not for me', 'I'm not that stupid to put my life at risk' think of what you could be missing out on. Extreme sports are becoming more and more popular as it gives us the getaway from who we are in a day to day life and to become free and exciting even if its for a few seconds minutes or hours a day.
So wherever you get your kicks, whether it be whitewater rafting, sky diving or sitting at the front of that roller coaster that looks like it travels at the speed of light and travels so high you would expect to come down wet from the clouds, embrace it.
