Doing your own prom hair might seem like a daunting task. I took it on for my prom night and I can honestly say I don't look back at my hair with dread. In contrast I had a friend who spent a lot at the salon only to have her hairstyle fall out half way through the night. If you plan on doing your own prom night hair, have a look at my suggestions and some step by step hairstyle instructions.
When you book in to have your hair done at a salon they recommend you come in for a trial run. The same should apply when you are doing your own hair. You should complete your own trial run. What's even better is that you can practice several times because it won't cost you the trial fee that is charged at many salons.
Below are the instructions for six achievable hair styles- soft curls, focus on the headband, the side do, the classic up do, the messy up do and short hair options.
Try to select a style that will work with your natural hair type because this will be the easiest to achieve.
SOFT CURLS
This style works well for girls who have naturally wavy tresses. It is always a popular style on the red carpet and a favorite of Victoria Secret models.
You will need:
-A blow-dryer
-A curling iron
-Sectioning clips
-Hair spray
Instructions:
1. Blow-dry your hair in sections so that it is smooth.
2. Take a piece of hair around 1-2 inches wide and wrap it around your curling iron. Only wind the curling iron up to your eye level. They key to great looking loose curls is to have them start from eye level down. Unless you want to end up looking like Shirley temple the this is the way to go.
3. Hold the curling iron in position for however long the instructions on your model specify.
4. To achieve a long lasting hold, turn off the heat and allow the hair to cool before unrolling the hair from the curling iron. This is time consuming, but worth the effort for a special night.
5. Repeat until you have completed the whole head.
6. Finger comb the curls to loosen them up, then lightly spray your hair with hair spray.
FOCUS ON THE HEADBAND
From stars on the red carpet to the hit show Gossip Girl, headbands have been a popular choice in hair accessories this year. A headband will look equally good over soft curls or a sleek straight style. (To achieve soft curls see style 1) To achieve a sleek straight style follow the instructions below.
You will need:
-A headband that compliments your prom outfit. A silk style with a bow or one with a little bit of bling are some good evening choices.
-A blow-dryer
-A
