Global warming denial patterns

by Pat Lunsford

Global warming denial patterns are typical since it is easier to ignore than to accept. Denial is also a bit contagious. Someone comes forward with a sound debunk of the claim then those who are frightened by global warming believe it because they want to believe it. However, the one thing we can't deny is the disasters that have been happening around the world.

In just the last two decades intense cyclones, earthquakes and tsunamis have taken thousands of lives and left thousands more devastated. Mega-storms have ripped across our own country taking lives and destroying property. All regions have experienced changes in the seasons. It even snowed in Baghdad. Something is definitely happening with the climate worldwide.

There are some who believe that the situation developing in the universe is having a profound effect on our planet and the closer we get to 2012, the worse it's going to get. The sun and planets are lining up with the center of the Milky Way and at the same time, the earth is finishing its wobble and the sun is approaching maximum.

Alarmists believe the event represents dooms day while dooms day debunkers consider it foolishness. Some Christians believe it's the return of Jesus Christ. New age groups believe it's the beginning of a new age of enlightenment. Then again there are those who have never even heard of it.

Most of the experts who study these things honestly don't know what kind of effect, if any, this galactic alignment will have on our planet. They agree that it has the potential to stir up our climate, but to what extent they don't know.

However, those who choose to put on blinders are the ones who are always caught off guard when the warning becomes a reality; even when they see the things that are already happening like the Asian tsunamis, Katrina and the China earthquake. The earthquake that devastated Haiti killed more than 200 thousand people!

Global warming denial has to do with its seriousness and its effect on our climate. However, tens of thousands have died in just the last decade as a result of hurricanes, earthquakes and tsunamis. These events cannot be denied. Something is happening.

Those horrific events could just as easily happen here. People may deny that global warming is the cause, but they cannot deny the fact that something is affecting our climate and it seems to be getting worse. Our winters are getting colder and our summers are getting hotter.

Could we be living in the "beginning of sorrows” that Jesus Christ talked about in 24?

"For nation shall rise against nation... there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be."

Global warming denial patterns are understandable as there's ample evidence and facts to support either side. However, we should not ignore what's happened to the innocent victims of the natural disasters that are sweeping the world and consider the possible threats to our own areas.

Preparing for the body is important, but preparing for the soul should be our first and foremost concern. “Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.” (Prov.27:1)

No one knows what a day may bring. The people in China and Haiti were going about their everyday lives when in a matter of moments, death and destruction lay all around. "Does disaster come to a city, unless the Lord has done it?" (Amos 3:6)

Not too long ago America was considered a God-fearing nation but we are quickly becoming an abomination filled with violence and sexual sin. Billy Graham said that if God doesn’t punish America soon He’ll have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah.

Global warming denial patterns are growing right along with all the other things America has chosen to ignore. Our morals are going to hell in a hand basket and we are on a very dangerous path. Thumbing our nose at global warming could lead to serious consequences. Thumbing our nose at God is just plain suicide.
