The Da Vinci Code, it inspires us to be more than little church puppets. You have to realize that most of what Dan Brown claims is truth is actually false. One of the key components to the Da Vinci Code is symbolism yet the move lacks all sorts of symbolism.
A major problem in this movie was the directing. Ron Howard had a good story and instead of turning it into a filmmaking endeavor he made it a storytelling movie. The movie was captivating in certain areas such as the mythos of the Priory and stories of the knights. But unfortunatly these episodes are few and far between.
Now I have to tell you as a Christian I came to this movie with a clear mind and no malice for any part of this movie. I wanted to be challenged by this movie, have it test my faith as so many people believe that this movie will destroy all of Christianity. The movie like the story failed on all ends.
One thing that seems to resonate in the movie is that most of the symbols we associate with Judeaism and Christianity are all pagan symbols. Of course this is false as anyone with a brain could deduce. The suposed symbol of males is a triangle and the symbol for females is an upside down symbol you put these two symbols together and they form the Star of David the Jewish symbol of Zionism. But they claim it is a pagan symbol.
The best parts of the movie involved Ian McKellan. When he was on the screen it was captivating, he seemed to genuinely know about the story of the Priory and of Catholic mythos. His acting is really the saving grace of this movie as the rest of the cast either were to over the top or to underdeveloped. Hank's character is never fully developed and you as the audience are kind of left in the dark about why he is even bothering with this in the first place. Tautou's character is clueless and often to over dramatic for you to get a sence of her true character.
The movie all to often starts down the path of character development and then turns a complete 180 and you are left in the dark about any of these characters motivation. Also there is absolutely no mystery her except for why it takes so long for these people to figure it out.
Ultimately I liked the movie but it could have been far shorter than it's 2 1/2 hour mark. Like I said before as long as McKellan is on the screen the movie moves well and is quite enjoyable; all the other times it is dull, boring, and uneventfull.
The Da Vinci Code is definite rent but don't waiste your money at the theater. If you are a Christian, Catholic, Muslim, Jew, or any other type of religion you should not feel intimidated about this movie. I encourage people to see this movie so as to at least know what kind of garbage they will have to deal with when crazy people confront them about their beliefs.
There is nothing threatning about this movie unless you value your time, than in that case, why do you watch movies for in the first place.
