Following some essential prom night tips can make your perfect prom night pass flawlessly and magically without a hitch.

First, prime your date! Plan your moves with poise and precision so that you are perfectly synchronised with your events through the evening, and that your thoughts on transport, meals, safety and curfew are in perfect harmony.

That includes punctuality of course. Impress upon him that on this night of all nights he must not be late! Both families will be watching and this is his chance to prove his professionalism in protecting you and being the perfect gentleman as he escorts you in safety and comfort to and from the Prom - even in it is a cab rather than a limo.

Also, prime or synchronise your friends, particularly if you are sharing some elements of the evening such as restaurant bookings or limousines. Nothing is guaranteed to ruin the cool, calm and collected enjoyment of a prom evening that is smoothly under control than bad timing or misunderstandings. Late arrivals, getting behind schedule, restaurant slot errors and frantic chase-up phone calls cause fluster, chaotic behaviour, friendship fall-outs and even tears. A last-minute run through is a good idea.

Pack your purses and wallets before-hand and offer spare house keys to other known members of the group in case of mislaid property. A minimal amount of make-up for facial touch-ups, some wet wipes for spills on suits and dresses, a phone-card or phone with friends' numbers and transport/restaurant numbers pre-loaded, spare nylons and a tiny notebook with pen for menu pricing calculations and a camera could all be included. Gel pads and BandAid for shoes that begin to rub is a top tip - and they don't take up much space.

A spare pair of flattie shoes and a wrap would take up a lot more room, but if your Prom is on school premises or at a venue that has a Left Luggage Locker or Cloakroom system, consider pre-filling a locker with useful supplies that may be bulky or expensive to manage on the night. Invigorating hydrating water bottles, warm wraps and spare pairs of comfier shoes might seem a world away from the glamour of the perfect prom but might be appreciated as the evening begins to wear on.

Watching what you drink is a vital tip, because losing control of your evening after all the expense and preparation would be a shame and your memories would be spoilt. Again, chime in with your friendship group and your date about this to increase the chances of the group working in harmony and not letting each other down.

Noting down meeting times and places may seem a little extreme before the event, but in all the excitement and confusion of a prom night that is going with a wow factor, unfamiliar drinks and surroundings can be very confusing and memories can dim quite easily. A rendezvous can easily be missed - was it number two or number ten? Did she say 1147 or 1127 for the restaurant? It doesn't matter if the guys and girls have written it in their purses or wallets.
