History of ancient Olympic Games

held on the last day of the games where the herald shout out loudly the name of the winner, the winner's father's name, and the name of his homeland. The Hellanodikis would then placed a kotinos, or the sacred olive tree wreath on the victor's head.

HOW ONE COULD QUALIFY FOR THE GAMES
To be a participant of the ancient Olympic games, one had to be a free Greek speaking person, and had his name written down on a list. He also must be young.

INTERESTING FACTS
Herod the Great provided financial assistance in 12 BC to ensure the continuity of the famous games.

HOW THE GAMES ENDED
The ancient Olympic games continued until 393 AD when Theodosius II, emperor of Rome decreed that the games would no longer be held.
