I am sitting here, looking at my laptop screen and wondering to myself: What am I really proud of in life? At face value, the question asked is seemingly simple enough to answer. However, at a deeper level, the more I repeat the question to myself, the more I find there is something mysteriously profound about it, which begs me to respond with an honest answer - and not an artificial or not well thought out one.
As I contemplate what I am now feeling in response to this question, I feel as if something divine and spiritual begs me to answer the question with complete honesty. And, as I think about this, a memory suddenly crosses the screen of my mind.
I once read a book which claimed that God is always speaking to each human being. The problem is that we hardly ever pay attention, nor do we ever really expect to receive direct messages from God. When we do, however, we seem to expect God to speak to us only via the the scriptures. As I think about this, I suddenly recall how I used to do exactly that as a teenager and later as a young adult.
What I used to do was this: Whenever I wanted an answer from God, I would pray about it. Then, randomly,I would crack open the Bible. Whatever page I opened the Bible to, I would read the first passage my eyes would lock on, and consider the content of that passage God's answer to my question or dilemma at the time.
Unfortunately, when I did that, the majority of the time the passages I read did not coincide or apply to the matter at hand. Therefore, often times, I was left feeling unsatisfied with the "presumed" answers I would receive from the Bible and, worse yet, feeling as if God had ignored my request for an answer.
In the book I read, the author claimed that God is speaking to us and trying to get our attention all the time - even when we are not seeking God's advice. According to the author, the reason we miss such divine messages is because we frequently limit God as to how It can answer our prayers or help throughout our daily lives.
God is not limited to providing answers for our lives only through the scriptures. When we rely solely on the scriptures for answers from the divine, we are in effect shutting ourselves off from receiving messages from God via the myriad of other ways which God can - and does - use to reach us. To begin with, who are we to limit God as to how It can speak to us?
God can speak to your and I via any means It chooses? God can speak to us in any
