Humor: Mundane mysteries

Where has everything gone?

What happen to all the Oil? I really don't care about what oil costs a barrel, don't tell me about rising demands, and don't blame it on the falling dollar. I just want to be able to fill my car up without taking out a loan. I want to be able to take 40 dollars, and fill my SUV up like I used to - less than two years ago.

I don't want to spend $5 for a locking gas cap that used to be $1.59 last year. I don't want the gas in my car to be more valuable than the stereo in my car. I don't want people to confuse themselves, that they would siphon gas out of a car, but they would never pop a lock and steal something from inside of it.

Where does it end? What happen to prices back when I was growing up. It wasn't so long ago, when my favorite candy bar was a nickle, and a bag of chips or canned soda was a dime - with a quarter, you had yourself a great snack. With a quarter today, all you have is a quarter of a soft drink or bag of chips, maybe half of a candy bar, or a phone call from a pay phone.

I don't think wages ever equaled cost of living, but it sure felt that you were closer back then. I remember fixing up my own wheels - a truck that was given to me with a cracked head - and going to work to earn some dough to buy the parts I needed to fix it. I worked the whole summer of my junior year in high school, just to ensure that I had wheels for my senior year. Today's technology in engines nearly renders the adjustable wrench obsolete.

I remember a whole bunch of friends... have no clue what they are doing, or where they are now. My wife and I joke about it, but we don't have casual friends. When we got married, we were "all in", and worked on our family, and enriching our kids with good solid values, and spent the balance of whatever was left on our own relationship. Our friends are made up of a few of our associates from work, but not close enough to bring home for dinner or entertaining. If we left the job, it was more likely that ties with the individuals would be severed.

I remember having a large chest, big guns, and a set of abs that would rival the TV stars... I remember my hair. I had so much hair crammed into my head, that often the first thing that other guys said was, why don't you give me some of your hair? I remember having so much energy, I just loved to run, and workout. Now, my chest slid to my belly, my big guns shrank into p-shooters, and my running is limited to my bowel action when I eat too much greasy foods. I still have a lot of hair crammed into my head, it's just a little lower now; ears, nose, eyebrows, etc.

Whatever happened to all my action hero stars? Man, Charles Bronson was tough, and Clint Eastwood was pushing out cowboy flicks like nobody's business. Burt Reynolds was very entertaining. New meat came on the market with Sylvester Stallone, Kurt Russell, and Harrison Ford. Most are still making films, but then, wow, my boys are old.

I guess, everything relative to time. With time, all things disappear. Youth diminishes, every good deal seems to have been better a decade ago. Everything good that ever occurred, would only be acknowledged years later. The good old days never looked so good.

Just listen-in the next time you congregate where people talk idly. Where has this and that gone, remember when we used to have... Yes, its all gone, but, a decade from now, we'll be saying what a great time we had when gas, bread, rice, etc. was only that much. One things for sure, this is as good as it gets.
