The Adriatic is so very beautiful and there are so many beaches all the way to Puglia. Ravenna and Ancona are two smaller cities you could visit and you'll experience more of the Italian way of life. Pescara may not be as well known but a lovely city in the Abruzzi Region in central Italy. It has almost everything a big city offers but not the mad rush of city life. Pescara is a place some people find ideal for retirement. You're on the ocean and not even an hour's drive from the mountains.

No matter where you are in Italy you will find good food and wine. Most likely you will hear music and see dancing. Perhaps you'll be moved and join in. There are all kinds of parades and festivals everywhere unique to the area. Most likely you'll hear people whispering to the point of yelling from balconies. So much going on that you'll get worn out so go ahead and take a nap in the afternoon as most Italians do. You'll wake up refreshed and after dinner go for a stroll no matter where you are.

The Spoleto Festival is the festival if you want almost a month of concerts, plays, film, and all other forms of art from all over the world. Get there a few days before so you can find a place to stay. Most families will rent any room they have and will provide meals too. At the end of the festival I guarantee you you will be totally fulfilled.

Italy is a perfect place to travel as a FAMILY since Italians love and understand family life. Kids are indeed loved in Italy so no matter what ages you have as long as you're fine traveling with them you'll be fine in Italy. Many hotels have all kinds of facilities including providing a nanny. Young people like Italy since it is so unconventional and so much fun and they feel at home.

You will never get enough of Italy and there is no end in places to see. Italians have not seen everyplace even if they are there a lifetime but that is the mystique about Italy that it is a place forever exciting. However, I do have one suggestion, "Take it easy on the wine!" Italians are used to drinking wine very young but with their meals. Once you experience Italy it will never leave you, it will stay in your heart until next time.
