Love them or hate them, there is no denying that schedules tend to work and can be the difference between success and failure, for many tasks. This is true about house cleaning schedules as much as any others. Trying to balance all the normal, day to day, demands on your life is hard these days. With much more important things to worry about than housework, it is best to have a schedule in place for household chores, so that you do not waste precious time. Cleaning the house may be a pain to you but it needs to be done, whatever your feelings about it.
So what is the best way to set up an effective house cleaning schedule?.
POW-POW
Have a household meeting to discuss a schedule for the household cleaning. Of course, depending who makes up your household, you may be able to just implement a schedule. It may be that you live alone or that your house-mates are used to following your schedules. However, if you want to set up a practical and workable schedule, that has chores which everyone does, it is best to have a quick meeting first. This way you can ensure that everyone is on board, has had some input and knows what is expected of them.
TIMING AND ROTATION
If there are a few people included in this schedule set it up so that the tasks are worked on a rotational basis. This will ensure that no-one always gets the dreaded jobs or the easiest ones. Take into account the age of those household members included for health and safety reasons and common sense.
Some tasks will need to be carried out on a daily or weekly basis whilst others will only be monthly or occasional tasks. It is up to you to decide if you are going to include all tasks into your schedule and the household meeting above would be a good time to sort out such details.
AGREEMENT
Make sure that everyone agrees the schedule that is to be implemented, as it is fine going through the motions and spending a lot of time establishing a schedule, but if no-one keeps to it what is the point?
If your home and household is small it should be easy and quick establishing a useful schedule.
TIPS
A good home cleaning schedule will:-
Be simple.
Suit your needs.
Be fair for everyone concerned.
Be easily accessed.
May need modifying from time to time.
Will have some chores allocated to all household members.
Be clear.
All of these tips are obvious when you think about it. If the schedule is unduly complicated it will probably result in some people doing the same the chores more than necessary or maybe none at all. Ideally everyone
