A simple revelation

The following simple revelation can apply to anyone in any situation, which is, you are in control of what happens to you. I'll say it again to make sure that you understand. You are in control of what happens to you. Many people would argue this statement by offering examples like: you can't control being caught in a natural disaster, getting hit by a car, or finding out you have cancer, etc. Truethe list of awful things that can happen to us is endless. While you might not be able to control what happens outside of your being, you can certainly control what happens within yourself. You can control your thoughts, actions, and perceptions regarding what swirls around you.

Let's use losing your job by no fault of your own as an example. You did nothing wrong, yet you lost your job. You will be tempted to blame yourself. The blame can turn into self-loathing, and then into despair. This extremely stressful example can happen at any time. So right now, you might be asking yourself, "Okay, how can I control this? I have no control." You do! You must first step back and look at the situation with clear eyes. Once you are able to do this, you might realize that you were never happy in that job, or that deep in your heart you wanted to do something else with your life. All of a sudden, you have seized control of the situation, and can now steer your way through it. The simple answer might be finding another job similar to the one you had, or you might opt to go back to school to learn a new skill. It doesn't matter what you choose, rather how you feel about your choices. Stress and feelings of hopelessness, will be things of the past, when you learn that you can control your destiny.

A friend of mine, whom I will call Bart, is a 48 year-old man that feels he can't control his life. He complains that everyone is out to get him, and that nothing is fair in his world. The weather, the government, the people at work, his girlfriend, and his job (the list is endless) are there for one reason, and one reason only...to cause him misery. Isn't that a sad way to live? Ahhh...it would drive me crazy, as it is slowly doing to him.

It doesn't matter what the subject: money, weight loss, relationships, or career advancement; you can control what happens to you. Go out today and buy a book about the power of your thoughts and you will be pleasantly surprised by what you can achieve when you put your mind to it!
