Phoenix is a rapidly growing metropolitan area. More and more people are moving to the Valley of the Sun. I'm sure many considering retirement in the Valley of the Sun probably visited during the snowbird season. Snowbird season is that time of the year when natives cool off from seven months of summer and retirees from the north come to bask in sunshine and sixty degree weather. It usually begins with the first week below ninety degrees (mid-November) and lasts to the first week of ninety degree weather (February). Arizona is beautiful in the winter and early spring. The desert blooms into a blanket of yellows, oranges, and purples. The air is cool. The sun warms your skin. Spring training is happening and the golf courses are gorgeous. Ah, paradise. Yet I wonder, how many possible Phoenix retirees ventured to Phoenix in July? How did you like the 115 degree plus weather, dust storms, and skin scorching heat? Well, if you can handle the intense summers and air conditioned living, then by all means retire in Phoenix.
Phoenix is a hot spot for retirement. Before you sell your Ohio home, do some research on Phoenix retirement communities. If it's been more than three years since you've been to Phoenix, a lot has changed. It's much bigger even for those us who've lived here for decades. First, call a few realtors and have them help narrow down some retirement communities that meet your needs and pocketbook. Next, get online. Check out the home builders and retirement communities in the Phoenix area. Many retirement communities are located on the periphery of the metropolitan area in both the East and West valleys. Both valley retirement communities have much to offer from scenic mountain views and preserves to excellent hospitals and health care, but I prefer the West Valley for affordability and amenities.
The West Valley is located within a few miles of a multitude of amenities. If you like sports, then you'll love the West Valley. Nearby cities house the NFL stadium and spring training facilities. Lake Pleasant is a scenic forty minute drive and a great fishing spot. Is shopping your cup of tea? Then the West Valley has a mix of everything from up-scale boutiques to large malls and historic downtown shops. There is also a mix of dining options from fine dining to quaint tearooms to mom and pop diners. Art and culture are also within a twenty minute drive. Take a history tour through the local Native American and Southwest Art Museums or hike through the White Tank Mountain preserve and see Ancient Native drawings with your own eyes.
The best master planned retirement communities are in the West Valley. Sun City Grande and Celebrations are just two of the many communities. That's because they're a Del Webb Community. Del Webb communities strive to make their large master planned communities feel like a small tight knit town. It is accomplished with the installation of every amenity you will ever need. Golf courses, swimming pools, recreations centers, restaurants, and classes create a town square feel with their design and location. The green belts and finger lakes remind you of the lush landscapes of the Midwest. Well manicured open spaces filled with flowering shade trees and shrubs follow the winding roads to create a warm welcome drive. The pristine golf courses offer you challenges any time of the day or year. Low walls and unfenced yards yield retirees with opportunities to know your neighbors. There is a friendly welcoming manner in this upscale community with a small town feel. Homes vary in price and style. With several builders and floor plans to choose from at varying price points, you are bound to find a home that fits your style and needs.
If you can brave the intense summer sun and virtual lack of rain, then come to Phoenix. Enjoy the warmth and friendly faces in the West Valley.
