Asking whether salon facials are worth the money is like asking if going out to a fine restaurant worth the money. The fact is that sometimes things just taste better when someone else prepares them for you. Sure you can make seared ahi and an arugula salad with poached pear and honey glazed walnuts. Anyone one can. But do you really want to?

There is very little in the way of products, or even services, that a salon can give you that you can't buy or do on your own. But who is going to smear it on your weary face? Who is going to massage it into your all-too-large pores? You don't want to have to do it yourself do you? I say you should let ten magic fingers do it. someone else's ten magic fingers that is. Let them do the work that they are trained to do, while you sit back in a nice cushy chair and relax for once.Trust me - it will be totally worth it. Just getting out of the house and into a new environment can be a refreshing change of scenery. I know that when I am on the way to the salon or day spa, my mind is already there gleeful with anticipation. I'm happy all the way there. How much are you willing to pay for that kind of happiness I ask you? If your worried about the money, just shop around a bit. Having some time for yourself doesn't have to break the bank.

I think the salon is great for both dads moms sons and daughters. It is a bit of "me" time that we can all use to better our moods. We would get along a lot better with our loved ones if we just took some time out to get facials, massages, and the rest of it. Facials are a fun and easy way to take a mini vacation in the middle of the work week. To recharge our batteries! To take some time out!

I ask you, is rubbing some goop on your face while watching ER re-runs a satisfying experience? I say it isn't, especially when the kids start fighting, the food is burning, and the dog begins to bark in the hall. Sometimes home isn't the sanctuary that we would like it to be. Getting away from it all is not only relatively inexpensive it's priceless.

I think that all of you working mothers, dads and students know what I'm talking about when I say that sometimes, you just need to get out of the house and get pampered a bit. So here's to massage, masking, and stress release! Here's to potions, liquids, and lotions! Here's to ladies with magic fingers! Here is to the retreat known as the salon! Now where are my keys?
