The reason conflicts develop among humans is because we are not Robots who can all be programmed to have common goals, views and interests. We are God created entities that are imparted with the greatest power of all, i.e., power of free will. It makes us think independently from others and hence often leads to uncommon areas of interests, opinions, value systems and views, as compared with others. This difference is the reason for the divide that is created at human psyche or mind level, resulting in conflicts.
So, is it bad to have this divide with others, after all? Well, most certainly, the answer is an astounding NO; because this divide gives us variety and diversity of opinions and value systems, it helps society by enabling people to choose what works best for them and be happy by aligning with the matching taste. It is a healthy thing because more often than not, variety consumes human attention in a healthy way. However, when this divide, or, as most commonly it is called, Conflict, is not managed properly then it is a problem.
It is not necessary that a state of conflict always exist between two or more human beings, it may well exist in a single person himself / herself because of various reasons. Some of those reasons are; when a person is not able to perform according to his / her own value system due to external pressures, when his / her resolving power is not able to differentiate and decide for one line of thought over other, etc.
Conflicts can be managed effectively using a few simple techniques as mentioned below.
$ Identify the Root Cause $
At the root level, we have already established that a conflict exists due to difference in ways two human beings or groups think, however, it is still important to analyze and root cause the situations that caused it to surface out. Some of these situations are; When supervisors do not communicate well with their subordinates and not make them participate in the decision making process. This makes subordinates feel being left out and they find it difficult to accept the decisions pushed on them without discussions.
Other reason is when supervisors are not able clearly set the boundaries of work and responsibilities for their subordinates, it often leads to overlapping areas of responsibilities and people come into conflict over who will take charge of what. This gets worse when people, who come into conflict, are strong headed.
