between laetrile and the elimination of cancer. Sugiura, however, thought otherwise, noting that medical personnel make too much money from scientifically-produced treatments to suggest a cheap, potent, natural alternative. He showed that when tested on mice, laetrile stopped the spread of cancer, pain, and growth of new tumors, and generally improved overall health. Apricot seeds contain a type of cyanide, which is poisonous when taken in large quantities, but small, controlled amounts appear to kill only cancerous cells without the patient committing ritual suicide.
Today, apricot kernels are recommended over laetrile, as their structural substance is stronger. Though the FDA has not solidified these findings, and probably never will since a natural cure will not profit the organization, the lack of support has not stopped alternative cancer treatment centers from taking advantage of the fruit's health benefits.
A Turkish idiom explains, "The only thing better than this is an apricot." So, whether you are in the mood for love, looking to improve your well-being, or just plain hungry, apricots are truly a superfood worth trying.
