Poetry: Prince Charming

by Mary M. Redoutey

Created on: May 12, 2008

A young girl
sat in front of a mirror
brushing her long
blond hair.
She paused briefly
to admire her blue eyes
her angel kissed cheeks,
her pear shaped face,
and her lips
kissed with the color
of rose wine.

She thought to the future
when she would be old enough
and big enough to find
the one and only,
her true, true love,
Prince Charming.
She hoped
that he would be kind and good,
that he would love her well.

She dreamt then of playing house
of building it
from rocks and shells,
from flower garlands
and even from mud pies.
She dreamt and dreamt
until at last she woke
to find herself older

Now, she was married.
Now, she knew the joys
and sorrows knew too.
She had met her charming prince.
Her husband met the princess too.
Yet both fell off of the pedestal
as lovers always do.

Now she knew the truth
the test of love.
The test of time.
Is to pick oneself up
off the ground
and to start
loving each other again
as mortal men and women
far from the stuff of fairy tales.
