Verse:
When I leave this place
I can be someone else,
who doesn't have a knack
for disaster.
Maybe I like to fish
and grow my own garden.
Hello Mrs. Johnson,
I'm from out of town.
I used to teach the little ones
until I needed a change.
I went to school
and got a good education.
I do the crossword every morning
like it's my hazelnut coffee.
My name is Mackenzie,
it's so nice to meet you.
I would properly greet you
but my hand's are covered
in dirt from the garden.
refrain:
Don't you, don't you, don't you
wish that sometimes
you could escape
this game?
Chorus:
Oh, it's so nice to invent
yourself all over again.
Fabricate where you went,
say hey remember when?
My fear of myself
has forced me to put
my memories on the shelf,
and to start on another foot.

Verse:
When I leave this place
I don't have to be me.
I love sushi and porch swings
in the cool evening
and walks with my dear old friends.
The scent of barbecue reaches my nose
and I can't help but grin,
because life is so good.
I've never been in trouble,
put a foot out of line.
Never felt the shame of losing
the trust that you had.
But it's nothing compared to
the anger I built up.
I look back in anger no more.
refrain:
Don't you, don't you, don't you
wish that sometimes
you could escape
this game?
Chorus:
Oh, it's so nice to invent
yourself all over again.
Fabricate where you went,
say hey remember when?
My fear of myself
has forced me to put
my memories on the shelf,
and to start on another foot.
